Kia

Sweet partnered with Kia to create their first NFTs in partnership with the NBA. To celebrate this and their new Telluride SUV, we delivered a customized microsite, unique NFTs and and experience for fans into the world of digital collectables.

We worked with Kia for several months on their Microsite and NFT Program. We launched in November 2022.

Who is Kia?

Kia Corporation was founded in May 1944 and is Korea's oldest manufacturer of motor vehicles. From humble origins making bicycles and motorcycles, Kia has grown as part of the dynamic, global Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group to become the world's fifth largest vehicle manufacturer.

It is South Korea's second largest automobile manufacturer, after its parent company, Hyundai Motor Company, with sales of over 2.8 million vehicles in 2019.

Project Goal

To celebrate Kia’s Legends of the Driveway and introduce their collection of NFTs, our goal was to create an experience marketed towards basketball fans everywhere. For the one page site, we leaned into Kia’s primary colors, the NBA, and neon elements for a somewhat different, but similar and familiar feel to both known brands. With a 1 drop NFT program, all the NFTs will be released at one time and will be for purchase via Sweet’s platform.

Process

Concepts

With an already established campaign with the NBA, we created our concepts based on Kia’s Telluride and basketball. How could we deliver an experience that matches both brands? We then began our explorations.

Design

With the client brief and NFT concepts in mind, we began exploring designs in Kia’s darker color palette and common NFT UI patterns. The designs were centered around Kia’s tagline “Movement that inspires”.

Build

After handing off designs to the Front-end Engineer, I had daily syncs with the FE Engineer. We reviewed the responsiveness, ensured all elements were correct, and worked together to solve any issues that arised.

As NFTS are becoming more popular for brands and clients to adopt, they’re looking to us for the knowledge and expertise on how to take the first step into launching their own NFT Program.

With a company like Kia and a campaign with the NBA, the possibilities are endless for an NFT Program. We shipped Kia’s Microsite for their NFT Program in November 2022. Kia released five different NFTs with 90% of the purchase price from each token sold in this collection going to MobilizeGreen - a nonprofit helping diverse students secure sustainability internships and conservation jobs.
